  1. A few podcasts ago you were talking about Wikipedia and MediaWiki tutorials. Here’s my
13 part series of videos on editing MediaWiki
. Unlike the videos you linked to earlier, I cover just the mechanics of using MediaWiki, not the social conventions of Wikipedia. The series runs 80 min long because I cover some non-obvious stuff, like the rules covering page names and namespaces.

  2. Another great show! Congrats… it gets better and better.

I think it’s great that you guys are being so honest and upfront about the problems, challenges, etc. at Wikipedia.

Also, found it ironic that you guys ride me for “not getting it” and then go right into all the problems with audits, raising money, etc. with Wikipedia!

We all know that making a little money from Wikipedia’s search is the solution to all of wikipedia’s problems, and that most wikipedia power users are using Google search anyway! Why should Wikipedia make 10-20M a year from Wikipedia search?

Why not leave it up to the *members* to pick if they want ads on their search or not?!? Aren’t the users of wikipedia able to make this decision for themselves??!?

  3. There appears several inaccuracies in this podcast. There was one category of membership that involved giving donations that possibly had a form (though that was going to be linked to make the donations) and another category of membership that required no formalities. This was the category of membership that everyone who used any Wikimedia project automatically was given membership rights and it was these people who voted for “members” representatives at the annual voting “meeting” (I am the guy who helped write the WMF bylaws before Brad rewrote them without consultation with me). Also in the fall of 2006 I was the Chair of the Fundraising Committee and we were quite active at that time.
