Episode 12: Essjay (special episode)
This is a re-record of the episode that didn’t make it. To be very brief, we cover the Ryan Jordan / Essjay situation.
At 12:30 (min in) is a must listen.

Definitely better than what we did on Friday! Heh. The recording my have been just hours too early, as Jimbo has now issued a new statement on the issue, calling for Essjay to resign.

Great job on getting this out so quickly, and with some strong exclusive content.
One thing I would have liked to hear more about was the positive side of this: as Phil Sandifer suggested on WikiEN-l, this can in some sense be seen as a justification of Wikipedia’s policy of giving experts (or supposed experts) no extra authority beyond the arguments and evidence they bring to the wiki.

I tried to leave an audio comment, but the applet froze my computer.

If you guys want a more polished sound, you should edit your podcasts before posting them — take out the ums, pauses, etc. (That’s what NPR does with its interviews.) I’d be willing to edit if you want.

Yeah, but I’m a little disappointed that it didn’t make it… oh well…

The problem with this episode is that it came out too soon. If I were you guys, I would have waited until about… now to publish it, as most of the info in the cast is now wellknown or outdated, and events were still unfolding when you guys made it.

We admit, we were attempting to get things out as soon as possible and try and provide “the bigger picture” to everyone who was extremely confused about this entire situation. To date, it’s the only episode where we recorded and published within 3 hours (the podcast literally went live 2.5 hours after we finished recording.)
Being able to understand a situation as it unfolds is critical. In the near future, we’ll follow up with the concluding picture, and go from there.
